1930 Briggs & Stratton model L1 air cooled gasoline engine

It probably spent it’s first life on a washing machine. After that..who knows? Initial teardown found a sump cover, piston and rod assembly from a Model Y Briggs. There were some scrapes and bumps in the crankcase so I think it probably broke a rod and tore up the oil pump. I’m betting it’s owner used whatever parts he / she could find to keep It going. I cleaned those parts up and reinstalled them when I restored this engine over the 2014 – 2015 winter. All the parts were bead blasted, primed and painted. The only new parts installed are piston rings, gaskets, ign. condenser, and return spring for the kick starter.
