5 Horse Briggs Governor Linkage Installation

Model 130— Briggs “5” horse engine, governor linkage is shown, to help with re-installation after a teardown. I can never get these things right without looking in the manual!!! 🙂 created this video with the YouTube Video Editor (http://www.youtube.com/editor)

  1. I know this is an old video, but THANK YOU!!!
I am rebuilding a 1974 Ariens Front Tine Tiller with a B&S 4hp/vacujet and couldn't find a good picture of the linkage in any available manuals.

    Take Care and God bless

  2. First 🙂
Isn't there a "general rule of thumb", on adjusting the gov arm to the shaft?
Something like : put throttle plate at wide open, and turn gov shaft in same direction as the arm moves toward wide open, and tighten the pinch bolt on the arm…like that works for most flyweight governors I guess.
Same but different: I just helped my buddy replace the intake valve retainer on his Tecumseh powered snow blower.
Someone had the governor all jacked up and it was singing!
After I got it adjusted out correctly, my, look at that. It responds nice and doesn't overrev. Whooda thunk it?
    Good stuff here !!
