  1. I bought a mower with this engine from a pawn shop for 100$ and it works great! I miss the old L-Head engines and their reliability. With the EPA and emissions today, this is not a bad consumer engine.. The no oil change is questionable, I change my oil at 15-20 hours of mowing and not had any problems. The valve cover leaks a little as someone else stated. Its not garbage and it is a disposable engine, nothing is made to last past the warranty LOL

  2. In these newer Briggs & Stratton engines:
    Plastic recoil cup – Less durable, and cheaper to make.
    Plastic carburetor – Proprietary part monopoly, less durable, and cheaper to make, sell for around the same as metal carburetors.
    Car style air filter – Proprietary part, more expensive than traditional style.
    OHV cover with only 3 bolts instead of 4 – Saves 1 bolt cost, leaks all the time, bad design .
    Thinner Engine block – Less aluminum used, less durable.
    Auto choke thermostat – Proprietary part monopoly, prone to failure.
    Low tone muffler – Claims to be quieter, questionable.

  3. Piece of Junk! The spark plug bore/ sealing Embossment blew apart destroying the entire head and needs to be machined! Can't even find a replacement head or parts for this POS. Time to buy a new mower. Ugh. I can find parts for my 50 year old Wheel Horse garden tractor though! Haha!

  4. Wow a cheap Chinese honda knock off the same engines u can get at harbor freight tool for 99 bucks ….what are you guys thinking shame on u Briggs !!!!
