  1. I BOUGHT TROY BUILT PRESSURE WASHER,THE HONDA 3000PSI UNIT FROM LOWES, PLASTIC CARB LINKAGE BROKE. 1 MONTH AND ONLY 6 HRS ON IT. RETURNED TO LOWES, HONDA UNIT OUT OF STOCK SO I ACCEPTED 2800 WITH B AND S ENGINE.
TOOK IT HOME, USED IT LAST WINTER, THEN ONCE IN THE SPRING. 8 HRS TOPS
CARB FOULED UP IS MY ASSUMPTION, AS I CAN SHOOT GAS INTO IT AND IT WILL FALSE START. WHAT A P O S. SHAME ON LOWES AND HOME DEPOT FOR SELLING THIS CRAP WITH SUCH A PITIFUL SERVICE HISTORY.
EVERY MAN KNOWS THE OLDER ENGINES OF EVERY MANUFACTURER RUN FOREVER, THIS NEW JUNK IS SORRY TRASH. TROYBILT- MADE IN AMERICA STICKER ON SIDE OF ENGINE COVER. NOW IM REALLY PISSED I LET THE HONDA GET AWAY. POSTING THIS AS I LISTEN TO THIS POOR SOB.

  2. wow quite the rant!  You can thank China for the crappy engines that B&S now produce. I would agree with you that timing gears are no place for plastic parts. The Vanguard series is the only family of B&S engines that is decent anymore and that is made is a Kawasaki engine.  I am a very experienced small engine equipment repairman and would offer some comments to help you in choosing equipment in the future. The info given to you about Ethanol is unfortunately a problem with all small engines due to the corrosion that it causes in carbs. This is compounded by the epa's influence on the jets being so small now that they are easily clogged. A way to minimize this is to use stabilizer in your gasoline and run that through the carb for a good 10 minutes before shutting down for the season. Oil degrades in an engine even if it is at rest most of the time. It will not last for 10 years.  As far as Troy Bilt is concerned; Troy Bilt is seldom Troy Bilt. MTD makes most lawn and garden equipment including much of the Craftsman, Huskvarna, Troy Bilt, Yadman, Yard Machines, etc. As far as engines go many have switched over to PowerMore a Chinese company that makes engines for most of the above. If the product does not specifically have a Honda or Briggs or Kohler or Kawasaki or Suzuki engine label on the engine it's probably Powermore. Honda is made in America and better than most. Note even a Honda will give you starting problems season 2 if you do not buy the best gas you can get and use stabilizer all the time.

  3. ben repairing mowers for over 3 years. more and more trobilt mowers, tillers, weedeaters etc are junk. too much plastic. motors go boom quickly. start smoking and knocking with in a couple years or less. They just dont hold up at all.

  4. thx for this video, very informative, was about to buy one, not now…. jus so you know, your message will go a long way, and thats just money outta there pocket, and your pocket too, thx again

  5. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! IF YOU'RE CONSIDERING BUYING A TROYBILT WITH A BRIGGS AND STRATTON MOTOR ON IT, JUST ROLL YOUR WINDOW DOWN AND THROW THE PURCHASE PRICE RIGHT OUT THE WINDOW OF YOUR MOVING VEHICLE. YOU WILL SAVE A LOT OF TIME. TROYBILT AND BRIGGS AND STRATTON WERE GOOD COMPANIES AT ONE TIME, BUT NOW THEY ARE A DISGRACE TO ALL AMERICANS.

  6. Wow! This sounds like crap that happens to me. Thanks for the heads up. I am in the market for a pressure washer. Need one that has about 2500-3500psi. I will keep my eyes out for anything with a Briggs and Stratton and stay away from it. Thanks so much for the post. Peace, Reese I will pass on your message to others.

  7. I just wanted to say THANK YOU, for the warning,  i'm looking for a pressure washer, and you won't believe how close I come to buying one like you, so I checked a lot of engine brands, and now my new zero turn mower is Kawasaki and pressure washer has Kohler, I never would of thought ANYONE could or would have used plastic, so i'm giving you a thumbs up as well as a thank you.

  8. DEAR SIR==YOU ARE MY SAVIOR !! BEING AN EX MECHANIC, MY FRIENDS THINK I CAN FIX ANYTHING. AT THIS TIME I HAVE A TROY BILT PRESSURE WASHER SITTING IN MY GARAGE THAT A "FRIEND" LEFT FOR ME TO GET RUNNING. WELL, I TRIED A NEW PLUG, AND SPRAYED GAS IN THE CARB AND PULLED AND PULLED . IT FINALLY STARTED AND I THOUGHT I WAS DONE, SO I TURNED OFF THE SWITCH AND LET IT SIT NOT RUNNING. THEN I TRIED AGAIN AND IT DIDN'T START. I LOOKED AT THE CHOKE AND IT WAS JAMMED IN THE CLOSED POSITION,SO I BLOCKED IT OPEN AND TRIED AGAIN AND AFTER SEVERAL PULLS IT STARTED AND DIED ON ITS ON. I LISTENED TO EVER WORD YOU SAID AND IT SOUNDED LIKE SOME OF MY PROBLEMS, SO NOW I FEEL LIKE WORKING ON THIS TB+BS MOTOR IS LIKE BEATING A DEAD HORSE WITH A SWITCH.

  9. all tools and equipment for home use are wimpies. they are below standard so they can sell them cheaper than professional quality tools and equipment. You can use them for a little while then they break they are engineered that way. Maybe they should call them disposable.

  10. I feel your pain man, thanks for the heads up but a little to late for me.  I have a troybilt pressure washer that is approx. 3 years old.  it probably has less then 10 hours on it and it wont start to no avail.
I'm gonna try a few more things on it then probably trash it.

Be aware, Honda has plastic cam gears too…  seems they are all going the cheap route.

  11. I had the same issue. Used to twice then put up for winter. 5 months tried to use and would not start. Tried to take back to Lowe's and they gave me the same crap, they denied it was their issue and told me to take it up with the manufacturer. Manufacturer said out of warranty. Enjoyed Lowe's until that day, Will never buy Briggs nor Troy or walk into a Lowe's again.

  12. Sorry to inform you sir but quality is nothing more than a legend these days. Absolutely everything is intentionally designed to be disposable garbage in the name of profit. I feel your disgust for the names of Troybilt and Briggs & Stratton. They used to mean quality and reliability to me as well. I also totally agree with the sentiment about today's gasoline. As I stated before, absolutely everything is intentionally designed to be garbage in the name of profit.

  13. I bought one at $300.00 didn't turn on so replaced with another lost money as it was on sale than I used it to pressure wash my parents house prior to paint….it is a piece of crap machine I put in about 25 hours. It made a racket noise very loud and I quick shutted off. So now in the process of calling Briggs & Stratton. Which I will never EVER buy again. An American company screwing the American people.

  14. I am like you. My dad a I have bought B&S for years but no more. I bought mine 5-6 years before my stroke. I now am getting able to do more and it will not start.

  15. well i always thought briggs and stratton was reliable. last year i bought a troy bilt pressure washer. used it one. this year it did not start. i will return to lowes and use my warranty. i have a honda snowblower 14 years old, runs great. this is to briggs and stratton, i will never buy your junk again. i know you know how to build engines, but apparently greed is in the company and now you build crap. so you lost my business and everyone i know. i will stay with honda.

  16. I purchased the Troy Bilt 3100 PSI with the Honda engine at Lowes. It worked well the first two uses, despite it smelling hot. The hot smell concerned me, but I kept thinking, "it's new." On the third use, the unit suddenly lost pressure while the engine continued to run perfectly. I restarted and it got pressure and then it cut. Sprayed for a while and got pressure. This varied back and forth.

I thought I was safe going with the Honda engine on this. And, yes, the Honda engine started first pull each time … unfortunately the pump seems to have issues.

If you walk in to your local Lowes, you may notice a bunch of these that have been returned available for sale at a reduced rate. There's your big clue. I do believe these are all disposable junk.

  17. B&S started making a lot of their engines in China some years ago. They managed to put their main rival, Tecumseh, out of business. Tecumseh kept their manufacturing line in the states, & they couldn't compete.

  18. Thanks for your Warning i have a pressure washer like that and i have the same problem i will try to start it if it fail the problem is in the plastic time chain and the plastic camshaft i will open the engine myself if i found that plastic parts has been installed i will call that a foolish game on customers that like american made products and the trust on that particular product will end very soon and i hope my family and friends listen to this warning and stop buying that brand now i will have a headache fixing something a cheap engineer invented .
