  1. Hi, My Craftsman model 486.24536 won't start.

I hop on, depress brake, turn key, engine turns over.

It has good spark at spark plug (Removed plug, reattached plug wire, turned engine over with end of plug held near metal frame, sparks).

Checked fuel, also squirted starter fluid in carburetor, turned engine over, won't fire.

Also checked for damaged flywheel key. Good there.

    Any ideas? Thank you.

  2. I had the same problem. The motor turned over until it got to top dead center and stopped cranking. I assumed that it had a worn decompressor on the cam, so I took the exhaust rocker off and it had a shim cap on the end of the valve stem. I took a paper punch and punched out 2 dots from a beer can and used them as shims and put them in the cap. It starts every time now, but I don't expect it to last forever because eventually the cam will wear until it does the same thing again.

  3. This worked for me, but why? Two week old T3000. Shouldn't be having problems but at least my lawn got cut today. So what do I need to do to have this fixed properly? Thanks.

  4. I have the same mower/engine/etc. and i'm having the same problem trying and trying and trying and trying to start it. I know you're looking for answers (as am I) but you just helped my a ton with that air filter trick! thanks
