Harley-Davidson Sportster V-Twin Ironhead Engine Rebuild Time-Lapse | Redline Rebuild #6

After three months, 20,000 photos, and more than our share of hurdles (especially finding parts), we’ve completed another Redline Rebuild time-lapse video. This time around, Hagerty’s Davin Reckow tackles a two-wheel project, a bit of a Frankenstein bike with the heart of a 1957 Harley-Davidson XL Sportster. No seriously, its engine is an ironhead V-twin from a first-year Sportster. So strap on your helmet because we’re about to speed things up a bit.

  1. you did an ok job but the machinest and the assembler need to go watch TATRO so they will see what they did wrong, so they can rebuild it withought destroying those valuable parts. They made som sloppy mistakes that will cause premature failures. They didnt fit and space the cases, nor fit and space the cylenders before torking them so the manifold fits. the machinest didnt use the seat grinding fixture to hold the heads nor centerlining the guids, so lots of mistakes, but nice try for ammatures. 🙂 see tatro, then the build will last for ever:) or atleast 200MPH once:)

  2. Errr .maybe you should you have lined up the inlet y-piece to the heads before torquing the heads down to get a even seal on inlet o'rings …..just saying !

  3. The time lapse and rebuild was really cool. I enjoyed it a lot.

Do you guys work on real bikes too, or just Harleys?

  4. Hagerty, could you please come here and take care of my bikes cylinder head and cam change…? You would do it in a heart beat, whereas I would waste a day or two in such miserable operation

  5. What a great Full Service shop. In house machining and Expert Mechanics. Way beyond the skills and abilities you will find in your average Harley Store.
