  1. so what is the difference between using points and condensor and electronic? also is there a gap in electronic or is it preset? I have a 3.5 briggs classic just changed diaphram and gasket set but it pops and spits when it runs that is electronic ignition any ides thanks in advance Ian

  2. The electronic is more simple, and instead of having points and condenser, it has all of the circuitry built in on the magneto itself, more reliable but more costly to replace. Have you checked the plug, alot of times its fouled and won't fire right. The only gap is between the coil and flywheel. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!!!

  3. thankyou for coming back, also wanted to ask I recently changed diaphram and gasket on my briggs 3.5 classic and the revving up and down has gone now but she still spits and pops while running any ideas? can exhaust valves stick or the gap between the coil and flywheel make a difference what am i looking for thanks in advance

  4. no problem! does the exhaust smell to rich? It could be a bad carburetor (doubtful though but possible) sounds like it could be in the valves, reseating the valves usually helps alot, i have another video on that. If its to big of a gap it can cause problems, just have to check and see, it should be the thickness of a business card. hope this helps!

  5. So, a day ago my auto teacher let everyone in the class grab whatever small engine they wanted so I grabbed a nice 5 horse Briggs and Stratton and when I pulled the cable to try to start it, it wouldn't pull so I took it home and took of the shroud and luckily it was just the magnetron not letting it turn. So I put the magnetron back on and it doesn't create a spark. I look at the side of it and it said "THIS PISTON SIDE" so i turned it around and still nothing. Any diagnostics I should run on it?

  6. Theres an even easier way to tell. If the coil has just one symmetrical block it has points and condenser. A magnetron coil will have another smaller block attached to the main one

  7. hello  i have 5hp verticale shaft briggs… has no spark… thanks to u i can take the points back i bought…thank you …. haven no spark.. and no points…does that mean the magnotron is bad….

  8. i put a new coil into my 2003 Tecumseh 3.5 hp.snowthrower and i still have no spark.  Do the flywheel magnets ever go bad?  This is a Craftsmen 536.885203.  Good video. Thanks…………..a

  9. I have not removed the cover of mine yet but I think its the magnetron setup… its 2002 mtd yardmachines 28n707 briggs… I am wondering, if you have the magnetron coil would it be better to run resistor spark plugs? Would it bother the coil if you ran non-resistor plugs? I would rather run non-r plugs IF its not gonna damage the coil.

  10. hey I just received a push mower that has no spark. it as the electronic ignition obviously according to your video. I've checked the flywheel magnets and only one side has magnetism and the other has none. also the only way to get spark is to attatch a small wore from the kill wire to the end of the spark plug lead and hold onto the spark plug lead and touch a finger to the ground. would you think this is a flywheel or a coil?

  11. How does the SS Magnetron ignition coil self adjust the early/late timing of Briggs engine, without the cam shaft delay for points? Where can I find this information. The laminations air gaps are different widths also.

  12. I WOULD RECOMMEND HAVING A CAN OF CLEAR COAT KRYLON AND CLEAN THE RUST OFF OF THE ARMATURE BUT NOT PAINTING WHERE THE MAG NEEDS A GROUND. ALSO I RECOMMEND CLEANING THE POLES ON THE ARMATURE AND SANDING THE RUST OFF OF THE FLYWHEEL MAGNET AND PUTING A COAT OF KRYLON ON THESE AREAS. MY FRIEND HAD MADE A CEMENT SCREED WITH A BRIGGS ON IT AND THE MOTOR HAD A LOT OF TROUBLE WITH WATER GETTING ON THESE PARTS AND THEN HAD LOW SPARK AND STARTING PROBLEMS. AFTER I DID WHAT I DESCRIBED ABOVE, NO PROBLEMS.
