Actually all the JA65 models with the engine were a big flop for John Deere. That is why they eventually put the 6.5 hp Briggs and Straton with OHV on later versions. In my opinion, you were better off buying the JX75 with the reliable FC150V for $100 if you wanted too.

Your throttle adjust may be under the air cleaner housing. Likely you need a new air cleaner. Try that before you adjust.
