This 10+ video series comprises all the videos I took for myself to document the rebuild of a GM Chevy Tahoe 5.3 Vortec (LS type) engine.   1. There would've been a reason that the engine would've been burning oil,Holden had trouble with a piston skirt to bore clearance issue with the 1999-2000 5.7 litre Chevy LS1 engines where if they consumed 1.5 litres of oil every 10,000 kilometres,the engine qualified for a rebuild.

    Mine is a 2002 model engine, from 2000-2005 they were ordered with the 1999-2000 Camaro cam fitted but it had the LS6 intake fitted from 2000 onwards.

    Mine is unaffected by the oil consumption issue as GM fixed the issue up in 2000,it has done 341,822 kilometres & it has done 1040 kilometres since the last oil change & the oil level is actually a still a tad over full.

    A naturally aspirated engine shouldn't need a catch can !

    They did have an oil consumption issue with the later 5.3 litre V8 engine but it has been fixed up with a revised PCV baffle inside the valve rocker cover.

    My PCV valve is on the other side of the engine, in the Camaros spot perhaps !

  2. Here’s a tip for a future mod. To reduce the amount of oil pulled in via the PCV, the LS6, 2, 3, 7 engines moved the PCV connection the the back of the valley pan, way less oil exposer. Plus oil separator cans should be mounted “higher” than the PCV connection so less oil is collected and naturally flows back down hill. 👍
    Rather than buy a $107.00 LS6. Valley pan, drill and tap the truck valley pan near the back allowing for sealing gasket/block sealing; install a screw on PCV valve from a Toyota Tundra V8…$5.00 😎
