Sears Craftsman 21″ Lawn Mower Carburetor Cleaning Rattling in Gas Tank? – Part III – April 6, 2013

This is the taking off the Carburetor and Gas tank to do a full cleaning but something rattling in the gas tank. Turns out parts of the venting in the gas cap fell in, could have caused a problem with fuel getting cut off. The Carburetor was taken apart and clean and the gas tank. This fixed it see the startup and after let it run for 15 minutes no revving up and down:

  2. Hi Skulledmonte84 thanks for watching this Video. That Carburetor is Part # 498170 this engine on this Craftsman is Model 123K02 Type 0181 and Trim E1. It’s the Primer Bulb Carburetor. The Briggs and Stratton site will let you plug in your Model, Type and Trim to pull up a full illustrated PDF file engine parts list. Looks like e-bay has lots of them out there new and used take care now!

  3. Hi Ervin, thanks for viewing. Do check the valve clearance if it’s indeed and overhead valve engine which it sounds like it is. That can make it difficult to start and hard to even turn over making it seem a battery/starter problem. It needs to have the proper clearance and timing for the compression release. Also if it’s gotten some age/carbon build it could cause the intake valve to not fully close or stick causing that backfiring. Let me know more about it. Thanks and take care

  4. what is the small silver disc under the carb float? mine is not seated in the hole and rattles around…does that cause it to idle fast..I don't want to blow my motor..HELP
