This is a simple procedure to adjust your Toro Personal Pace Drive Cable. These cables will stretch over time but there is adjustment to remove the slack in the cable causing the self propelled to not fully engage. This is the same adjustment for the front wheel drive Toro mowers as well hope this will be helpful!

Hi Cliff, great info! I didn't know you could adjust the cable tension on these personal pace mowers, good to know!
Thanks for posting this. I just adjusted my mower after 2 months of pushing with no help from the mower. You've changed my life ! Its like brand new.
Thank you for this video ! I need to make this adjustment on my Toro as I have had the same problem .
Thanks. 1:20 to 1:50 – that is what I was looking for. I knew there was a way to adjust the cable tension, but failed to identify it on my own. Thanks again.
Thank you, this was my exact problem and tightening the bolt fixed it easily! Saved me at least $100 easily.
If you have the opposite problem & the drive won't disengage would putting some slack in the cable fix that problem?
Hi. Thanks for the informative post. I was having problems with my mower so prior to viewing your video I went on and replaced the belt. Then came upon your video and made the cable adjustments. Mower is propelling but issue now is pulling mower in reverse. The mower wheels basically continue to move forward creating a tug-a-war scenerio. Any ideas as to how to correct this? Thank you.
thanks for the post… however, I have replaced the drive belt, adjusted the cable and put everything back together my transmission engages the wheels turn, but it feels like I'm doing all of the work. what is happening?
Thanks for the vid. Cant believe I went all last year with out self propelled feature. Literally took 30 seconds to fix!
Thanks.
Thank you so much! I was very crazy busy today and could not slow down and look at this! You made it so easy! Thanks again!
Have this exact mower…my prob is no neutral…self propel goes right at start…does reverse of this video fix that?
was just getting wrench out to try it. will ck out the cable.
thanks for info. will let ya know
Just got one of these along side the road and it runs well but doesn't drive. Going to try this fix tomorrow. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO!!!
great mowers ! thank you !
Every time he says self propel, DRINK!
Thanks. Helpful…but SHOW how it's connected up top. You kept just showing the cable lol. My cable popped off.
Excellent. Worked like a charm. Thanks for the info!

I remember I found one of these alongside the road by my house. I got it for free and the personal pace wasn't working at all. Engine ran perfect and even had a new air filter. I did the same thing you did in this video and the personal pace worked perfect. It's amazing how wasteful our society is.
Thank you for the video. It was the exact problem I was experiencing. My mower is now working fine!
Thank you, just what I was looking for, good clear explanation.
Thank you, this worked! My only other question is: is there neutral setting, or a way to disengage the drive? (Mine is rear-wheel). Or do you have to pick up on the front wheels to move it when off?
Thank you for the video. Unfortunately I just changed my belt as the previous owner told me that the existing belt was old and stretched. So maybe your adjustment video would have worked without me changing the belt. Anyway, the new belt only cost me around $10 and 1 hour of my time.
Thanks – having the exact same problem!
Will get this fixed asap.
I have been having problems with my 20056 Personal Pace. I was getting weak pulling from the mower. After viewing your cable adjustment tip, I tightened the cable and it pulls like new. THANK YOU!!
Thank you for the video! It worked and you saved me money and time.
Thanks for the video. I had replaced the belt and was not sure what to try next. I tightened the cable as you did, but got the high-pitched belt slipping sound frequently heard from older autos and no self-propel. Do you think I need to tighten more, replace the cable, or something else?
Thank you so much for sharing this info. Truly appreciated!
