What a blown engine sounds like. Craftsman V twin engine riding lawn mower.

My riding lawn mower suddenly has engine problems, sounds like it is detonating or has preignition. The sound you hear is a bad piston; essentially broken on the inside and cannot be repaired for any less than $600…mostly labor. It is 12 years old, 2000 Craftsman 18.5 HP V-Twin cylinder 42 inch cut Intek Engine Briggs & Stratton, New blades, battery only a few years old, dual blades.

  1. I have this same mower I received with buying a new house. Has worked OK so far but last cut I stopped to empty bagger and got a popping sound when trying to restart and I couldn't start it. Is this a spark plug issue? Oil level and fuel level are good. Anything else to try or replace?

  2. No it sounds like its misfiring you should try and speed her up and see what that will do but first check the plugs and oil burnt oil can make um do that but if it was mine I would speed it up.
