Where to Find Your Lawn Mower Engine Model Number

Need help finding the right lawn mower manual or parts? Watch this Briggs & Stratton video on where to find the engine model number for push mowers.

Your engine model number will be needed to find your manual online or identify the correct small engine parts for your push lawn mower. This number should be easy to find, as it is typically stamped into metal on your Briggs & Stratton engine.

Since some engines come with covers or “shrouds,” your engine may look a bit different than those pictured in the video – as they come in a variety of colors, shapes and sizes.

Regardless of your cover, the engine model number will be in one of 3 locations on your lawn mower.
-Front of the engine above the spark plug
-Front of the engine between the OHV symbol and the air cleaner
-On the sheet metal above the muffler, either on the right or left side

Once you’ve found your push mower model number, find your Briggs & Stratton manual online here:

  1. Thank you for posting this important and interesting video regarding the process to find the model number of your Briggs & Stratton engine on a petrol lawn mower. My home owner customers in Buriram, Isaan Thailand are helping our lawn mower repair department when they come into Ruangsangthai or e-mail to our repair department with the model number. I am proud that my family owned builders merchant and tool supply store is a partner with Briggs & Stratton and am pleased to repair Briggs & Stratton engines with genuine made in the USA Briggs & Stratton lawn mower parts.

  2. HOW DOES THIS WORK WITH NO  MOBILE PHONE  OR ACCES TO ONE??,  HOW LONG WILL  THIS STICKER LAST??        AT  THE VERY LEAST MEANS ANOTHER TRIP 30 MILES TO GET ANSWERS??    FUTURE WILL NOT BE THIS ONE ,    MAY EVEN RETURN WHAT I HAVE NOW RIDICULOUS,    HOW ABOUT SENDING ME THE PART WITH THE NUMBER STAMPED IN IT?   REGARDS,

  3. Why do we have to have music in the background of a perfectly simple task ('cept it ain't) I can't hear or understand the muffled American accent beneath the meaningless music mess. AND it's not my speakers. When it comes to that why can't i search for the manual by the name on the front of the Engine a '450E' series. it all seems needlessly complicated. Get the nerds out of the machine shop into the real world. STUPID!

  4. you bastards i have wasted 4 fucking hours still don't have engine
number to order parts and your tech support sucks.
i will make it a point to tell people not to buy any product with your
fucking engine. every fucking time i walk in to lows or home depot and
see someone looking at lawnmowers I will tell them to stay away.
